The 2012 Golden Globes-Best & Worst Dressed

Last night at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards,  there were some amazing dresses on display.  Of all of the gowns, my pick for best dressed of the night, was definitely Emma Stone.  She was a standout in her stunning Lanvin dress with the vintage stone embellished belt and plunging neckline.  The combination of fuchsia and plum tulle with the thigh high slit made her look like a true celebrity and style icon.

Mila Kunis was gorgeous last night in this black Dior stunner.  Her elegantly pulled back hair and the Cartier accessories were the ideal complement to the gown.

Kristen Wiig is hilarious and one of my favourite comedic actresses.  Last night she pulled off one of the most elegantly dressed at the show.  Her Bill Blass gown with Fred Leighton gold accessories was simple but also so flattering.

The fishtail bottom gown, seemed to be all over the red carpet last night.  Sofia Vergara looked beautiful in her navy Vera Wang version.

Sunny yellow is a big trend for Spring 2012.  Paula Patton was so “0f-the moment,” in her gown.  She looked refreshing and beautiful in her dress.

Charlize Theron wins for the most dramatic dress of the evening.  This Dior Couture gown with the plunging neckline, thigh high slit, flowing train and over-sized bow was the essence of Hollywood glamour.

Stylist wanted: Amongst the misses last night, three stood out as the worst.  Sarah Michelle Gellar allowed her 2 year old daughter to choose her Monique L’huillier tie-dye disaster and it was obvious.  Sometimes it’s okay to say “no” to your kids.  Nicole Kidman wore a clingy dress with gold studded detail that came off as tacky, and Meryl Streep missed the mark in this cowboy inspired shirt dress.

Perforated Leather

A surprise trend this season is popping up from various designers making their appearance at local stores and boutiques. Perforated leather is currently all the rage and in following suit of the season, the style is all about bringing back the 70′s.

From clutches to boots, top handle bag’s and sky high heels, the perforated style is everywhere. We love these leathers in a neutral tone such as brown or nude as the tiny holed details are more visible in the lighter shades.

Look for these items from designers such as Mango, BCBG, Michael Kors, Lanvin and House of Harlow with prices ranging from $55.00 to $1300.00.

Pair these leather goods with everything from summer dresses to dress pants and of course jeans.

 The new hot Spring pieces that Marlo can’t seem to keep on the racks are;

Victoria Beckham/Spring 2011

 *Victoria Beckham dresses. They are ideal because of their amazing fit and sharp look.  The designer uses cotton pique and heavy jersey’s to create a corseted look and an hour glass shape.  Her dresses are very form fitting and make any woman look shapely

Lanvin/Spring 2011

 *Lanvin’s silk dresses in saturated colors such as magenta, red, yellow and teal are a very hot item right now.  He is the master at draping his silks into unique forms that flow over the body and hug at just the right spots.

Jeremy Laing/Spring 2011

*Jeremy Laing’s dresses this season are perfection personified, and one of the most in demand designers at Holt’s right now.  The line focuses on texture and draping.  He does layering better than most.  I have my eye on this black floor length dress. I am a bit obsessed with it.

Brian Atwood Pump

*Brian Atwood’s cork sling backs with a hidden platform are the perfect nude shoe and are also new at Holt’s.

 Marlo’s favourite Spring Accessories this season are;

*the DiDi scarves. The softness and feel of the scarves in their muted color palette makes them her personal pick.

Celine bag/Spring 2011

*The Celine bags with their chic simplicity makes them the “it” purse of the season.

 *Daniel Faith’s refined gold jewelry has some great new pieces.   She mixes gold and semi-precious stones and pearls in delicate lariats that are perfect for layering.

 Some of the new items that Holt’s is currently carrying are;

Isabel Marant/Spring 2011
