Calvin Klein

It’s a Plus!!!

Some of  our readers have inquired about where to get fabulous designer plus size clothing.  We have searched the net far and wide and came up with 6 favourite styles that look good on any body type.

Nordstroms has a great site and a variety of designer styles to choose from.  They carry Calvin Klein, Tahari, amongst other fashionable lines.  Also, we came across a site called Lola & Gigi which offers a variety of clothing lines for any occasion.

This first dress by Igigi, is the ideal black cocktail party dress.  It is cut in at the waist and flairs out a bit at the hips.  The low cut of the v draws your attention to all the right places.  This can be found on the Lola & Gigi site.

The sequined cocktail dress, also from Lola & Gigi is fitted just under the breasts and flairs out a tiny bit from the hips.  The cut and fit of this dress looks great.  Throw on a little leather jacket or jean jacket to edge it up and add a pair of great ankle boots and you have an outfit that works on any night out.

These black coated skinny jeans are so flattering and right “on-trend.”  These are from Nordstroms.  Pair them with high-heeled shoes to elongate the legs and a blousier top for a great night time look.

It’s all about florals this Spring season and usually big patterns is a definate don’t on a plus sized figure but this maxi is the perfect cut and shape to flatter any body shape.  The waist belt and halter style gives the illusion of a small waist and looks fabulous.

This indigo skinny jean and asymmetrical blouse combo looks great for day time and could easily go into night with a pair of sexy heels or ankle boots and some great jewelry.  It is also extremely flattering.

A belt tied in just the right place makes this coat super stylish and looks great on a plus sized figure.

Celebrity Style-Dree Hemingway

Ballerina turned model and famous daughter of Mariel Hemingway, Dree Hemingway is on our radar for style stalker.  We love her youthful look and her penchant for pairing high and low pieces to create a glamorous yet effortless style.  She balances tough girl luxe with vintage and timeless pieces in her wardrobe.  Her favourite signature off the red-carpet look is a boyfriend tuxedo jacket, skinny jeans, over sized cardigans and sweatshirts.  She is also mad for stripes.  She cites silver, black white, brights grey as her fave fashion colours.    Her go-to designers of the moment are Valentino, Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, Balmain, and Agent Provocateur.  Her star is on the rise.  Sexy, hippie chic, or preppy, Dree Hemingway is a style force to be reckoned with.

Style Forecast-Spring 2011

Spring 2011 Trends

“Baby it’s cold outside,” but before you can say Sorels, Spring will be just around the corner.  The term, “eclectic chic” has been used to describe the climate of the upcoming season.  There is a melding of bold prints, stripes, and bright colours.  Mid driff baring tops, big shouldered blouses, and 70’s inspired looks with a twist.  Pretty much almost anything goes this spring season.  Let’s break it all down.  Here are the top trends coming up ….

The Floppy Hat

This is my personal favourite style.  I have a closet full of hats, and I try very hard to wear them with confidence, but inevitably I always take them off at the last minute and play it safe, but no longer.  I have my eye on a fabulous black felt floppy hat and I think this time I’m really going to  wear it.  Now the trick is, to not take this trend so literally.  Mix it up, play with it a little and put it with an unexpected outfit.  Although it would look great with a pair of faded bell bottoms and a tucked in blouse, try to wear it with something a little more modern.  Like stripes for instance which takes me to the next trend of the season…

Stripes/Bold Colours

Stripes are everywhere this season and they come in all shapes and colours.  Bold, bright colours are also making a statement all over the streets for spring.  Tomato red, cobalt blue, citron yellow, vibrant purples, and emerald greens are all hot colours for the upcoming season.  The best part is you can mix and match colours, prints, and stripes.  Forget all the rules of fashion you lived by in  the past.  Eclectic is the way to go.

White

Varying shades of white is also very on trend this spring.  White blouses, tanks, t-shirts, pants, skirts, anything goes.  Structured looks, blousy pieces, it’s all good.  Wear it head to toe or add a pop of colour in a belt or a shoe to break it up.  White is the new black this spring.

Chiffon Maxi Dresses and Skirts

The see-through maxi dress and skirt is really a key piece for this season.  Pair it with combat boots for an edgy look and a short leather jacket, throw an oversized cardigan on top, or just wear it as is.  The skirt is being worn ankle length with something fitted tucked in on top or a blousy top with a fitted layering piece like this leather jacket.

Other trends to look for, bow blouses, silk scarves and anything fringe, flared, bell-bottoms or trouser jeans.
