Street Chic

It’s All About the Trench

The Trench was first introduced as a men’s coat worn by British and French soldiers in the First World War.  It has evolved into a stylish timeless topper that is a wardrobe staple in any woman’s closet.  The new trench has had a rebirth.  The classic beige version remains but now, designers are tweaking the “it” coat by adding studs, prints, ruffles, glossy sheen, and varying the lengths and fabrics to make the Trench into a highly fashionable statement piece.   The Trench is the perfect coat with a great pair of jeans and heels or a sexy look with a dress and high boots.  It’s versatility makes it the ideal spring/summer coat.

Street Chic/Natalie Gee

Natalie Gee

Natalie Gee, or Nat as most people refer to her, is not only the co-owner of Gee Beauty the quintessential place in Toronto for brows and all things beauty, but a fashionista in her own right.  From head to toe Nat is style personified.

She is a risk taker and it always pays off.  She rocked a punk hair-do better than anyone. She has the ability to put together looks by infusing high and low end pieces and makes it all look effortless and seriously stylish.   She doesn’t follow trends blindly but incorporates the one’s that suit her fashion sensibility and pairs them with unexpected vintage or classic pieces.

She is a style icon and without knowing, pushes those around her to take more risks in their own wardrobe.

Today, Nat is wearing a pair of fabulous leather leggings, a black tank with an Alexander Wang black sheer sleeveless shirtdress over top.  She has paired it with a cropped denim jacket, stunning black platform pumps and lots of colourful bangles.  Overall, a great street chic look.

Street Chic

It’s not an easy feat to look stylish in the dead of winter.  When I see someone doing it well, I have to stop and ask,  “What are you wearing?”  Danna Heitner, of Art & Interiors is the epitome of “winter chic.”  She is wearing a touque by Theory, which works well with her long straight hair, and a Helmut Lang down coat which I am obsessed with,  a pair of AG grey black skinny jeans,  an Alexander Wang oversized turtleneck sweater and a pair of the best winter boots I’ve ever seen.  I had Davids on speed dial the minute I found out where she bought them.  They are Jimmy Choo motorcycle boots with a fur lining, and a must-have for the cold dreary months.  The piece de resistance is, the infamous Proenza Schouler PS1 Mini Crossbody Satchel in black.  It is the much coveted accessory of the season.  Overall, a fabulous winter look.

Street Chic- Brianne Leder

A girl of style, Brianne shows that maxi dresses are not just for summer! Here she has paired a cotton full length dress with a cowl neck sweater worn over top, gray scarf, and has accessorized with a caramel colored belt and boots. The unexpected shade of brown adds life and creativity to the ensemble making it the perfect look for a cold winter day.

This is the perfect example of how a typical seasonal item like a cotton dress, can be transitioned into an all year round piece with the help of layering and accessorizing! What do you think?
