The 2012 Golden Globes-Best & Worst Dressed

Last night at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards,  there were some amazing dresses on display.  Of all of the gowns, my pick for best dressed of the night, was definitely Emma Stone.  She was a standout in her stunning Lanvin dress with the vintage stone embellished belt and plunging neckline.  The combination of fuchsia and plum tulle with the thigh high slit made her look like a true celebrity and style icon.

Mila Kunis was gorgeous last night in this black Dior stunner.  Her elegantly pulled back hair and the Cartier accessories were the ideal complement to the gown.

Kristen Wiig is hilarious and one of my favourite comedic actresses.  Last night she pulled off one of the most elegantly dressed at the show.  Her Bill Blass gown with Fred Leighton gold accessories was simple but also so flattering.

The fishtail bottom gown, seemed to be all over the red carpet last night.  Sofia Vergara looked beautiful in her navy Vera Wang version.

Sunny yellow is a big trend for Spring 2012.  Paula Patton was so “0f-the moment,” in her gown.  She looked refreshing and beautiful in her dress.

Charlize Theron wins for the most dramatic dress of the evening.  This Dior Couture gown with the plunging neckline, thigh high slit, flowing train and over-sized bow was the essence of Hollywood glamour.

Stylist wanted: Amongst the misses last night, three stood out as the worst.  Sarah Michelle Gellar allowed her 2 year old daughter to choose her Monique L’huillier tie-dye disaster and it was obvious.  Sometimes it’s okay to say “no” to your kids.  Nicole Kidman wore a clingy dress with gold studded detail that came off as tacky, and Meryl Streep missed the mark in this cowboy inspired shirt dress.

Who Wore It Best

Alexa Chung, Ivanka Trump and Kirsten Dunst all rocked the same Rebecca Taylor frock but Kirsten Dunst works it the best with her casual black blazer, ankle boots and over-sized Louis Vuitton Duffle bag.  This is casual chic at its best.  The dress looks too pretty on Ivanka and doesn’t suit her body type.  Alexa Chung looks great in her dress paired with Miu Miu sparkle and suede booties.

While Alexa Chung looks great in this black lace-sleeved velvet Emilio Pucci dress, the shoes overwhelm the outfit and make it look a bit too severe.  Jessica Chastain has it right with her platform pumps, simple diamond drop earrings and her hair pulled back.

We adore this McQ tartan Puffball dress.  Both celebs look youthful and funky.  Chloe Moretz paired hers with ankle boots and socks for a school girl appeal and Emma Watson edged it up with pointy toe heels and a rocker leather jacket.

The 2011 Emmy Awards

There were a few standouts last night at the 2011 Emmy Awards and only a few misses.  Here are our pics for the best and the worst dressed:

Claire Danes, Katie Holmes, Sophia Vergara

Claire Danes was glowing in her mixed metallic sparkler.  She looked elegant and youthful.  Katie Holmes was breathtaking and ethereal in her cobalt gown.  With simple makeup and her hair artfully pulled back she was breathtaking last night.  Sophia Vergara looked sexy and vibrant in her “of-the-moment” red Vera Wang gown.

Lea Michele radiated in her red floor-length Marchesa gown with the scoop back.

Julie Bowen

Julie Bowen was a true standout in her metallic animal print gown with the plunging neck line.  Her hair pulled back in a long side pony tail complemented the look.

Gwenyth Platrow

Gwenyth always looks stunning but I think she missed the mark in this stomach bearing Pucci dress.  She definitely has the body to pull it off but I think that less is more in this case.

Although, Melissa McCarthy from Mike & Molly is cute as a button, this dress is a big purple miss. It’s a whole lot of heavy purple material.  It would have worked better in a lighter gauzier or silky fabric, with a three quarter sleeve perhaps.

Amy Poehler is one of the funniest actresses right now and running up on stage last night before the winner was announced was legendary, her Peter Som dress though, is utterly forgettable.  The shiny blue metallic clings in all the wrong places.

Juliana Marguelis is a fabulous actress but her dress is a disaster.  The material was too shiny and I’m not so sure about those huge crystal raindrops on the top.  This Good Wife is a Bad dresser.

Celebrity Style- Melanie Laurent

Ever since seeing the Quentin Tarantino film Inglorious Bastards, I have been following incredible french style of Melanie Laurent, the movie’s beautiful heroine.

During the movie she was seen sporting androgynous styles as well as stunning gowns and feminine dresses.

In real life the young starlet who claims Dianne Kruger and Marion Cotilliard as two of her BFF’s, rocks a french urban chic look that is unmistakeable.

Often seen sitting front row at Chloe, Sonia Rykiel and Marc Jacobs shows, Laurent has a unique style that brings vintage looks together with fresh new designs and styles.

Like many of our favorite style icons, Melanie typically leaves her hair unpolished and tousled for that undone look, which works perfectly for her.

At Hush we believe that Melanie Laurent has only just begun her rise as a celebrity style maven who is sure to bring her fresh french look mainstream.

Style Icon: Jessica Hart

The up-and-coming model is a fashion inspiration, a fan of Louis Vuitton, Isabel Marant, Valentino and Fendi, Jessica is a fashion trendsetter and has effortless chic style.  She dresses down a maxi dress and leather jacket with a pair of converse sneakers and looks fab.  She can throw her hair up in a messy bun on top of her head and she looks put together and stylish.  Her famous gap-toothed smile, reminiscent of Lauren Hutton has made her famous.   Since moving to New York City in 2008, the Aussie stunner has modeled for Guess, Sports Illustrated H&M and has appeared in several episodes of Whitney Port’s The City.   She has also become one of Victoria’s Secret’s go-to models over the last year.  Her style is glamour mixed with a downtown edge.  She is my new favourite model of the moment.

Celebrity Style- Blake Lively

Ever since Blake Lively hit the scene in 2007, she has grown as a courageous, trend setting, stylish fashion icon. As Serena Van Der Woodsen on Gossip Girl, Lively’s character has proven to be ahead of her game with her glamorous ensembles and has carried though her style off set. In real life Blake has chosen some incredible items to wear to gala’s and other formal events. Claiming Chanel, Calvin Klein and Marchesa as some of her favorite couture designers, Blake Lively is always spot on with her style choices.

Often she will choose gowns that are either bold in color or daring in print, typically showing off her ample bust line or lengthy legs.

To show off her beautiful face, Lively favors her hair pulled back off her face when attending black tie affairs. This is also her hair style of choice such that she can easily display fabulous dramatic earrings as her accessory of choice.

Hush loves Blake Lively and we cant wait to see where her style leads her in the future.

Nicole Richie/Easy Breezy Summer Style

Although it barely feels like Spring, Summer is just around the corner.  Nicole Richie,  one of my favourite fashionistas shows us how to update your warm-weather style by adding a few of these Summer trends.

1. No one wears a scarf better than Nicole.  Enhance your summer look by throwing on a fun, colourful, summer weight scarf to add life to a jeans and tee look.  Add fringe for an of-the-moment look.

2.  It’s all about the accessories this summer.  Try wearing your jewelry in unexpected ways.  Nicole embraces this trend by sporting various bracelets higher up on her arm which creates a chic on trend look.

3.  You’ve heard it before, but the maxi skirt trend is huge and it comes in many incarnations.  Wear it sheer, floral, loose, tight, denim, it’s all big for Spring and Summer.  Balance this style with a fitted tee or tank.  Here Nicole wears her tank top loose over top her skirt.  Try tucking it in and throwing on a belt for a different look.

4.  Glam flat sandals are big for summer.  This House of Harlow beaded pair dresses up any casual outfit and would look great with a flowy boho-inspired maxi dress.

5.  It’s all about colour this season.  Add a brightly hued purse, shoes, belt or a bangle or go daring with a bright top or bottom.  Nicole shows off this style on the cover of Lucky Magazine.  She has paired her brightly coloured skirt with a neutral top.

6.  Mixing up bracelets and bangles piled up on your wrist is another summer trend.  Use different metals, textures and beads to create an eclectic look.

7.  White is huge for Spring and Summer.  Even better go for white-on-white with a pair of white pants, a white tee and a white blazer for that cool girl chic look.

The Modern Princess Bride

The wedding of the century went off without a hitch and provided all the fairy tale details that a royal wedding should. The ceremony between Prince William and Kate Middleton has been the highlight of the media world for the past few days and I for one cannot get enough.

The second I turned on my television to tune in, I was in awe of the elegance and poise that Kate Middleton displayed during her big day. Wearing a dress designed by Sarah Burton from the house of Alexander McQueen, Middleton was a vision of beauty. Burton is the current designer for McQueen, taking over the position after the houses infamous designer committed suicide in 2010.

As soon as fashion experts caught a glimpse of the stunning lace and silk gown, comments circled instantly over the similarity between Middleton’s gown and that of Grace Kelly’s when she wed Prince Rainier in the 1950′s.

While the dress itself was a spectacular creation, once cannot ignore the incredible veil and tiara which accompanied it. Designed by Cartier in 1936, the tiara, lent to her by the Queen, was a perfect addition to the elegant gown.

One cannot deny that it was clearly Kate who had all eyes on her, but her sister Pippa also glowed in the spotlight. Wearing McQueen as well, her rail thin body allowed for the simple silk dress to drape perfectly allowing for a flawless silhouette.

The entire wedding had a modern romantic feel to it providing for a media frenzy that is sure to be an iconic event to go down in history!

Baby Mamas!

As an ode to our very pregnant Hush Co-founder, I have been inspired by celebrities who know how to do maternity right.  It’s not an easy feat to look stylish and swollen at the same time.  Pregnancy used to mean baggy clothes, a lot of black and staying away from all things trendy, but no longer.  These days, celebs are embracing their belly by wearing body con clothes, skinny jeans and even stilettos in order to dispel the myth that pregnant woman can’t be sexy.

No celebrity did maternity better than Gwyneth.  Throughout the nine months she kept her classic, put together style and looked chic and beautiful.

Nicole Richie who is a fashion designer and style icon, wore her pregnancy like a badge of honour incorporating her boho-chic look into her every day wardrobe.  This maxi skirt and fitted tank top accentuates her burgeoning belly and she makes pregnancy look hot.

The sexiest pregnant woman was Jennifer Lopez.  She was glamourous from month one until the end.  She shows off her fabulous baby belly in this fitted white gown.

Newly pregnant Jessica Alba wears the “of the moment” logo fitted tee with a blazer and looks stylish and comfortable at the same time.

Victoria Beckham who emanates style, shows off her baby bump in skinny jeans, a loose top, blazer and stiletto heels.

Gwen Stefani doesn’t shy away from vibrant colours and patterns.  She looks amazing in these flowy, maxi dresses.

Celebrity Style/Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens is a fashionista in her own right.  She not only rocks the trends with outfits that are the perfect combination of retro and romantic but has the ability to add an elegant twist for dressier occasions.   She utilizes accessories like hats, bags, and jewelery to complement her hippie-luxe style.  Here she showcases how effortless she can throw together a day look and then adds a little sophistication for night.

Vanessa looks stunning in this backless Jenny Packham lilac embroidered gown that she wore to the Sucker Punch premiere.  It is elegant, sophisticated but still has a youthful element.

Here, Vanessa has thrown together an easy but stylish look with a Wildfox Couture tee, over-sized studded army jacket from Blu Moon, Ray Ban Wayfarers, and a Cole Haan Crossbody purse.

At the Coachella Music Fest, Vanessa dressed for the occasion by wearing an of-the-moment, black lace crochet maxi-skirt by Unif, a cropped Bohemian inspired tube top by Jen’s Pirate Booty, a double wrap studded brown leather belt by Kettle Black and a very cool pair of chain drop feather earrings by Love Child.

This Leopard Maxi-dress by Blu Moon with the addition of the unexpected large Messenger Bag by Fendi makes this outfit a standout.

Vanessa is chic in these great pair of Textile Elizabeth and James wide-leg jeans, the boho inspired blouse by Blu Moon and the Barney’s black woven belt.  This is the perfect spring daytime look.
