Alexander Wang/Accessories

We are obsessed with Alexander Wang accessories.  The footwear this season is nothing short of innovative and spectacular.  Their bags are always timeless and unique.  Here are our picks for the best of Alexander Wang’s Accessory Spring 2012 offerings’

The Chloe Patent Leather and Suede Contrast Sandal is a standout.  With a hint of subtle colour blocking, the black sandal with a touch of grey and tangerine is the ideal combo and makes this shoe one of our favourites this season.  Pair with cropped jeans or pants or wear with a dress, or skirt.  At $548.45, this is well worth the price.

The Leather zip sandal and it’s flatter wedge sandal version , the Raquel are the perfect shoes to add that bit of edge to your wardrobe.  Pair them with a girly floral or print outfit for a contrast, or wear with pretty much anything.  We are coveting these two sandals.  The 3 inch heel is $490.99 and the flat sandal is $405.00.

Alexander Wang bags are a great investment.   They make any outfit pop and give each look a slightly rocker edge.  This season the bags come in array of styles and of-the-moment colours.  Amongst our favourites are;  the Perforated Leather Bag at $679.03, the Donna Washed Suede Hobo in ice blue at $830.50, The Prisma Tote in Royal Blue at $715.59, The Angela Mini Bag at $679.03, and the Rocco yellow Citrus bag at $1015.00.  These mid-range bags are pricey but worth every penny.

    Plus Size Spring Fashion

Colour-blocking is a hot trend for Spring and Summer.  While in the past, black was considered the only colour of choice to create a smaller frame, we at Hush say “au contraire.” Embrace the new colour-blocking style by choosing a dress or shape with a cinched in waist like this dress.  The two tone colour is a great way to highlight either the top or bottom half depending on where the attention grabbing colour is.  The wrap style waist emphasizes her upper half and creates an hourglass silhouette.

Pattern used to be a definite “NO” for those with a more voluptuous figure but no longer.  Wear the new “it-pattern,” in any colour incarnation.  The old adage “go big or go home” applies.  Wear a larger print pattern which tends to be much more flattering than an all over smaller floral.

Designer Plus Size lines used to be few and far between but now some of the top designers are putting out fuller figure clothing lines.  This fabulous colour-blocked dress by DKNY, is stunning and it has the bright colours is in all the right places.  The royal blue brings the eye to her upper half which elongates the body.  The fabulous pink shoes complement the dress.  Michael Kors makes this trench coat stunner in the new tangerine shade.  It is belted in the right place to accentuate the waist.  Tahari makes this silk floral tank.  Pair with skinny pants to make this outfit pop.  This bright pink dress is a standout.  Bloomingdales has an entire line of Plus size clothing and this dress, is our favourite.  It is belted at the waist and the skirt skims the body perfectly without hugging it too tight.

      Spring Summer 2012 Hair Trends

      This season it’s all about revival with an undertone of modern when it comes to hair.  Long, mid-length, short, there are so many easy chic styles to adopt in order to change up your look on a day to day basis.  Here are the top trends for this Spring and Summer season;

Long and Bouncy blown out hair is one of our favourite trends this season.  It’s wavy flowy look is polished and elegant and has that 70′s vibe which we love.

Prada adopted the Homemade curls look in their Spring runway collection.  Taking its cue from some of the most iconic 60′s looks, it’s retro with a decidedly modern appeal.

The Fishtail was resurrected by the blockbuster The Hunger Games, and it is all over the place for Spring and Summer.  This super relaxed easy style is a game changer.  Much more chic than a regular braid, the fishtail is easy to achieve.  Just jump out of the shower and fishtail your hair and you’re ready to go.

The tomboy ponytail is androgyny meets sexy.  It’s also an easy summer style to achieve all on your own.

The side pinned wavy look is hot this season.  It’s got a girlish retro vibe and works great on mid-length to long hair.

The bob is back in various incarnations.  For short hair the mod bob is hot.   It’s short, voluminous and messy.  The flapper bob is another hair style trend this season for medium to short hair.  If you have long hair and don’t want to cut it, but love the look, go for a retro-faux bob.

There are so many great styles this season.  Pick and choose the one’s that work for you and change up your look.

There are so many great dresses out there.  Here are our picks for our faves.  Some are an investment and some are easy on the wallet.

The Bright Yellow Chiffon Asymmetrical dress by Mason is a standout.  Belt it or wear as is.  It is the ideal colour for lifting your spirits and can be dressed down or up depending on the accessories.  It comes in tangerine as well and is available at intermix online or in stores.

This White Criss Cross Helmut Lang is exclusive to Intermix.  It’s draping and silky fabric makes this a must-have item.

A.L.C is one of our favourite brands at Hush.  This tangerine maxi is great for both day and night and can be belted or left to flow free.

Alice & OIivia has some great Spring dresses this season.  This Purple Chiffon is no exception.  It looks great with a pair of pointy toe heels.

            Jennifer Lopez/Style Icon

Jennifer Lopez is our pick for the most stylish celebrity.  The American Idol judge, 42, who has changed her look dramatically through the years, can pull off just about any hot trend. Each week on the show we are mesmerized by her style and beauty.  She is elegant and graceful yet always chic with an edge.  She is a chameleon who looks just as good with her hair pulled high in a bun with bright red lips as she does with her hair wavy and messy and a natural makeup look.  What makes her iconic in our books is that she doesn’t give in to the idea that you have to dress a certain way when you hit a certain age.  She can rock an ab bearing Herve Leger better than anyone.  She plays with colours, styles and a variety of silhouettes.   The Catherine Malandrino leather long-sleeved cut-out is a standout.  She sparkled in a Lanvin pleated lame maxi skirt with a white top.  This white halter Gucci jumpsuit with a gold belt and matching strappy sandals has a retro seventies vibe but with a glam modernized look.  We can’t wait to see what she will wear next.

              The Fashion at Coachella

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival began Friday, April 13, 2012  This festival is as much about fashion as it is about music, from flowy maxi skirts to floral printed minis, faded cutoffs, fringe, floppy hats, and fab ankle boots .  Here at Hush we give you a peek into the festival’s best dressed.

We love Kate Bosworth’s easy breezy hippie-chic style.  Her Isabel Marant ankle boots complete the look.  The native inspired jewels and belt buckle ramp up this effortless outfit.  Lily Allen went for a flowy printed dress and juxtaposed the relaxed look with a classic purse.

Lea Michelle looks hot in this crisp white shirt dress with the pop of tangerine underneath.  The platform sandals elevate this from a bathing suit cover-up to a fab daytime outfit.

Nina Dobrev and co-star Ian Somerholder are not only a smouldering couple but are perfectly dressed for the event.  We love Ian’s fedora and tank with the pinstriped pants and boots.  Nina’s snake-print flat sandals and feather earrings are the perfect complement to her tangerine summer dress.

Hush Obsession of the Week/Rag & Bone

Founded in 2002, Rag & Bone had one very clear mantra: to make clothes that they and their friends would love to wear every day. What began as a menswear line dedicated to denim, transformed into an iconic brand with a full women’s collection, menswear and accessory line.

While retaining their timeless appeal, Rag&Bone have kicked it up a notch lately to become one of the more modern, and wearable brands out there.  This season, they have made colour a main focus in their spring and summer line while keeping a keen sense of detail in tailoring.

We at Hush have chosen our favourite picks of the season that will add some classic elements with an edge to every wardrobe.

Rag & Bone are notorious for making great fitting jackets.  This season is no exception.  The Bleached out denim jacket with leather sleeves is great over a dress, shorts or cropped pants.  The turquoise blazer comes in a multitude of bright colours and will ramp up any neutral outfit.  The Chanel-esque jacket is a unique take on the classic moto-style and looks great with faded jeans.  The two-tone jacket which is reminiscent of the Smythe blazer this season comes in various different colour combos.

The spring sweater is a great piece to have in your wardrobe.  Rag & Bone makes a variety of different cashmere blend tops.  Pair them with shorts for a cool look or a pair of this season’s cropped pants.

The asymmetrical Bridgette dress is a cross between Helmut Lang, and Rick Owens.  The sheer fabric at the bottom makes this a true standout piece.

There are many celebrity fans of the line including notorious fashionistas Rachel Bilson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Selena Gomez.  Rag & Bone is one of our favourite lines and has become our Obsession of the week.

                  PROM/ High/Low

Prom is fast approaching.  For a girl, this is one of those defining moments in a teenage life.  A lot of pressure is put upon this one night.  Do you have to spend a fortune to look and feel special?  We don’t think so.  Here are our picks for the top prom dresses for Spring 2012.

This sunny yellow dress is from Tibi and is definitely on the high end for a prom dress.  At over $400 this is an investment piece.  Although if dressed down, this can be worn again and again all season long.  Throw a jean jacket or leather moto over top with ankle boots or great flats and this is a great day or casual night dress.  The floral vintage inspired dress is from Cynthia Rowley.  This is also pricey at over $500.  I love the retro vibe, and it’s versatile and timeless.

If you don’t want to spend a fortune for one night, go to Topshop.  They have a variety of dresses that are ideal for prom and all are under $100.  This way you can spend a little more on shoes, a great bag and some earrings.

This green dress is stunning with a pair of pointy-toe heels.  The bright colour looks amazing on red heads but works for pretty much everyone.  This animal print dress also has a vintage feel and would look amazing with a pair of heels, especially with a pop of colour like bright purple or red.  This sequined dress is called “The Prom dress” and it’s great if you want to add some sparkle to the evening.  The bright pink asymmetrical dress is one of my favourites, as its youthful but has a bit of an edge.

This mad-men inspired red crochet dress is great.  We love the simple elegance of it and with a great pair of black heels, this is a true standout.

The peplum dress is so hot right now.  The peach hue is perfect for Spring and would make an ideal prom dress.

                    Bathing Suits

It’s almost that time of year where we have to start thinking about summer, which means putting on a bathing suit.  Not an easy time for most, but if you have the incentive of a sexy, showstopping suit, than the task becomes a lot less overwhelming.

Here are our picks for the most unique, sexiest suits out there right now.

This Shan one-piece is gorgeous.  It’s lingerie inspired and brings outerwear into a whole new realm.

This camel coloured bathing suit is unique with the tassels and ruching that almost makes it look like suede.  The bottoms are very flattering and with a spray tan you will be a true standout in this number.

This Michael Kors Triangle ring bikini has crocodile leather and straps which makes it almost look like a handbag.  It’s unique and sexy.

If you don’t want to break the bank on a swimsuit that you can only wear for a couple of months, go to H&M.  These two nude and peach stunners look like you’ve spent a fortune and will turn heads.  It’s one of the best kept secrets in swimwear.
